Tallahassee, FL - Save Southern Heritage Fl declares victory today in its campaign to thwart anti-southern bigot Miami State Representative Michael Greco. This is in response to yesterday's announcement from Grieco's (D-Miami Beach) announcement that he did not plan to seek re-election. “Southerners all over the State are rejoicing that this hate-monger will no longer be in a position of power to advocate for his divisive agenda” said David McCallister, spokesman for Save Southern Heritage – FL ("SSH"). After Grieco filed legislation calling for the removal of Robert E. Lee’s birthday and other traditional Southern holidays, SSH launched its “Don’t New York My Florida Campaign” that involved thousands of post card protests from around the State. “We launched the campaign in response to his attacks on venerated heroes in his prejudiced proposed legislation” McCallister noted. Grieco moved from New York to Miami to attend University of Miami Law school and stayed to pursue a career of criminal law. Prior to being elected to the Florida Legislature in 2018, he had sentenced for violation of Florida Campaign Finance Laws. “Greico is another example of why some transplants have a bad name. They have no respect for the true diversity in our state” McCallister said. Well liked Democrat Governor Lawton Chiles issued Proclamations in observance of Confederate Memorial Day, but Greico sought to remove the same observance. “Such division isn’t welcome in the Sunshine state” McCallister added. “This may not be the sole reason for his departure from the public sphere, but it is indicative of a small-minded attitude that no honorable representative of the people should have,” McCallister said,“ His party seems to recognize this by not supporting this unproductive stance”. “We want to send a message to others who insult our families to tread carefully, lest they too get sunburned in the Sunshine State” McCallister said.

McCallister added, “Those who identify as “southern” do not appreciate these insults to our families and our traditions”. This is not the first elected official whose record of anti-southern bigotry failed to win support. Republican house member Shawn Harrison was soundly defeated after sending out a campaign mailer advocating tearing down historic monuments. Also on the local level, Leanna Freeman, St. Augustine Commissioner failed to win her re-election bid after voting to move the historic cenotaph in Constitution Plaza. “This should be another warning that voters do not like negative identity politics.” McCallister concluded.

SAVE SOUTHERN HERITAGE Inc. is a not for profit corporation that educates & advocates on behalf of Southern Heritage & History. It was started in 2015 in response to the knee-jerk Anti-Southern institutionalized bullying and “Eracism” levied against the people of South Carolina by Governor Nikki Haley, after she broke all previous agreements about how South Carolina’s historical veterans and their symbols should be treated and respected. The Florida branch was activated in mid-January 2016, in response to three initiatives in the Florida Legislature that are part of a hate campaign led by Anti-American extremists, who refuse to respect the various cultures that make up the fabric of Florida’s society. Since that time, it has grown in membership and has been active in battles over American History and throughout Florida including the “We’ll Remember in November Campaign” that resulted in #heritagehater candidates to lose elections in Florida and others to win.
