HK Edgerton 'Calls Out" Fort Myers NAACP President Over Robert E. Lee Bust
Fort Myers - "A Liar". At tonigh's City Council Meeting HK Edgerton, himself a past president of a NAACP Branch, called James Muwakkil as a "Liar" after Muwakkil delivered remarks about why the Robert E. Lee bust should be taken out of public view in the city. "No that wasn't too strong" said Edgerton about his remark. "I'm sick and tired of this slander against a dead American Hero. Americans revere Robert E. Lee. Lee County is named after him. Everyone is entitled to his opinion, but these lies have to be called out" he added. Previously, Muwakkil filed false police reports on a local resident for a 3rd hand threat. Both the FBI and the local law enforcement officials report that the cases have been closed, presumably for lack of evidence. "This is the "MO" of the 'take 'em down bunch" said David McCallister, Save Southern Heritage FL ("SSH FL") spokesman. "They'll say or do anything to get their way - lie or threats - just like spoiled brats" he added. About 20 Pro-Lee speakers participated in the public comment section of the meeting, including a black resident that asked if they removed the monument would they also tear down the hospital with Lee's name? "I commend that gentlemen who made the effort to come down to the council chamber and speak his peace. I just hope and pray they don't do to him what they did to Phillip Walker and young Ashley Troutman in Lakeland" Edgerton added. Troutman and Walker were both silenced with threats and intimidation by the NAACP in Lakeland, who recently rejected Mr. Troutman's plan to build additional monuments, in favor of taking down the Historic, Iconic Munn Park Cenotaph. The overwhelming majority of public comments about the bust were for keeping it in place, many calling on the council to hold a referendum if there was any doubt as to what the citizens of Fort Meyers wanted. One called for installation of an Abraham Meyers statue, the namesake of the City. Myers was a Jewish Quartermaster for the Confederate Army. HK Edgerton, a civil rights activist, is past President of the Asheville, NC branch of the NAACP, his home town, and was called to work to defend the civil rights of Southern-Americans in the war on history that started with the NAACP's 'odious blight on the universe proclamation".
