RESIDENTS SUE CITY OF HOLLYWOOD OVER PROPOSED STREET RENAMING

Hollywood - A lawsuit has been filed by City residents against the City of Hollywood to reverse the actions underway to re-name certain streets in the City. The lawsuit, Case # 62196871 filed (link to filing HERE) in the 17th Judicial Circuit of the Circuit Court in and for Broward County, seeks to stop the planned renaming of Lee, Forrest and Hood Streets in the City, a move that was demanded by Black Lives Matter and other leftist groups. The lawsuit also seeks to enjoin these groups and the City from renaming the streets. The lawsuit has been filed by seven (7) residents of the affected streets, all members of SAVE OUR STREETS assisted by Save Southern Heritage FL ("SSH FL") and SAVE THEIR HONOR, both organizations that have objected to the streets being renamed. An additional 175 residents are in support of the lawsuit and may be added at a later date. "This renaming attempt demeans American Veterans who are held in high regard by many generations of Americans of all ethnic groups and from all regions of the country," stated David McAllister, Esq. Chairman of SAVE THEIR HONOR. "Generations of parents have named their darling little boy or girl with the middle name "Lee" in honor of Robert E. Lee," McAllister continued. "What they did was just plain wrong" said Sylvia Koutsodontis a business owner on Lee Street, and the Chairman of the Save our Streets Coalition. During the August 30, 2017 Commission meeting, the procedures were so out of order that one of the commissioners, Peter Hernandez, left the meeting calling the discussion a 'Kangaroo Court." "We agree with Commissioner Hernandez and that's why we've asked the Court to overturn the improper and potentially illegal actions of the Mayor and some of the Commissioners," stated Cynthia Baker, a leader in the Save Our Streets coalition and a homeowner on Lee Street. A court hearing has not yet been set. SAVE SOUTHERN HERITAGE Inc. is a 501 c(4) public welfare corporation that educates & advocates on behalf of Southern Heritage & History. It was started in 2015 in response to the knee-jerk Anti-Southern institutionalized bullying and “Erase-ism” levied against the people of South Carolina by Governor Nikki Haley, after she broke all previous agreements about how South Carolina’s historical veterans and their symbols should be treated and respected. SSH FL does not condone racism and as such we do not support any group or person that does. We respect the rights and privileges of all as bestowed on them by their creator and expect those in our association to respect and treat others as they themselves would wish to be treated. The Florida branch was activated in mid-January 2016, in response to three initiatives in the Florida Legislature that are part of a hate campaign led by Anti-American extremists, who refuse to respect the various cultures that make up the fabric of Florida’s society. Since that time, it has grown in membership and has been active in Heritage battles throughout Florida including the “We'll Remember in November Campaign” that resulted in #heritage-hater candidates to lose elections in Florida.
