Orlando - Mayor Buddy Dwyer ordered the sneaky removal of the historic Confederate Veterans Memorial that has been located in Lake Eola Park since 1917.
City officials as late as Tuesday stated that the Memorial would not be moved for several weeks, and yet, due to increasing opposition, Dwyer moved up the timetable to removed the Memorial early this morning - following the New Orleans precedent. The decision was made without a vote of the City Council or off the voters of the City of Orlando, who expressed overwhelming opposition to moving the Memorial from its current location at Lake Eola to Greenwood Cemetery. A progessional public opinion survey commissioned by Save Southern Heritagee - FL indicatd 85% of Orlando voters were opposed to such a move. "This is an example of the squeaky wheel geetting the grease. Militant extremists are forcing their agenda and the majority are being ignored" said Save Southern Heritage - FL spokesman David McCallister. "We demand the Mayor do thee right thing - restore the Memorial to its rightful place in the civic landscape and not 'in the closet'" McCallister added. "We have set up a legal defense fund to accept donations" McCallister noted. (http://mp.gg/39rnh) "This is a slipper slope" added McCallister. "This now...what next" he said. The Take 'Em Down NOLA organizers called the first four monuments shockingly thrown literally in the trash bin in the city's war on history, and are now demaning the WWI Memorial Arch be ditched as well. Meanwhile, in Tampa, in the face of "extreme backlash" after a similar attempt, Hillsborough County Commission Chairman Stacey White will be recommending the Commission adopt a protection ordinance like the ones recommended by AMVETS and adopted in other municipalities in Floiridad and other states as well. Voters in Hillsborough, like Orlando, overwhelmingly oppse moving the Confederate Veteran War Memorial from its current location at the County Courthouse Annex. Commission phone lines and e-mail boxes have been flooded over the past few weeks by votersthat are insititingthat these historic monuents that are memorials to the men and and women who have served. The Hillsborough County Commision will take up the issue tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at the Hillsborough County Commision Chambers at 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa.
SAVE SOUTHERN HERITAGE Inc. is a 501 c(4) public welfare corporation that educates & advocates on behalf of Southern Heritage & History. It was started in 2015 in response to the knee-jerk Anti-Southern institutionalized bullying and “Erase-ism” levied against the people of South Carolina by Governor Nikki Haley, after she broke all previous agreements about how South Carolina’s historical veterans and their symbols should be treated and respected. The Florida branch was activated in mid-January 2016, in response to three initiatives in the Florida Legislature that are part of a hate campaign led by Anti-American extremists, who refuse to respect the various cultures that make up the fabric of Florida’s society. Since that time, it has grown in membership and has been active in Heritage battles throughout Florida including the “We’ll Remember in November Campaign” that resulted in #heritagehater candidates to loose elections in Florida.
