STATEMENT ON PROFILE IN COURAGE AWARD 2018 RECIPIENT MITCH LANDRIEU
Florida - Ex-Mayor Landrieu should really be given the "Profiles in Cowardice" Award. Instead of actually addressing the ongoing issues of New Orleans, he orchestrated a high-profile sleight-of-hand tactic to divert attention from his lack of real leadership. He did nothing to consult, include, or assuage those who genuinely and justifiably revere General Lee, President Davis, or General Beauregard. Instead he rammed the "takedown" down everyone's throat and used the most high-handed, dictatorial, gestapo methods - police lines, barricades, and middle-of-the-night raids, what would not bear the honest light of day. \ He treated these memorials to American veterans with scornful disrespect - dumping them in junkyards. Those with an agenda of bitter resentment were not even momentarily appeased by this egregious cave-in to the minute number of vicious and strident Anti-American and Confederophobe bullies. On the contrary, they immediately demanded more 'takedowns". Now he's left office with even more division in the city - not to mention overflowing stormwater drains as funds were diverted to move memorials at their expense. A legacy of unnecessary and unresolved hate and fiscal irresponsibility for others to pick up the pieces and deal with - he's out of there. Courage? I think not. Can't the Kennedy Foundation find someone else to honor for real courage, instead of dragging the gutter for this example of spinelessness in public office? Perhaps they like their honorees to be the objects of general derision in a hypocritical gesture of pious and pompous corporate virtue-signaling.
