Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson Extolling Students Learning about History in London

Fort Myers – Iconoclast Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson gushed about London history on an international New Year’s Day broadcast today. The appearance arose as he accompanied the Fort Myers High School Marching Band, on their appearance in the 2023 London New Year’s Day Parade. Anderson effused how lucky the students were to “learn about the great history” surrounding them in London. “Anderson’s statement is a pinnacle in hypocrisy” said David McCallister, spokesman for Save Southern Heritage – FL. “This is the mayor who presided over removing his own town’s history” McCallister said. “If you don’t protect and preserve your history, there won’t be any for students…or anyone else to learn from” McCallister added. The Fort Myers Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans took note of Anderson’s duplicity. “How despicable of Mayor Anderson…to go to another country and praise their rich history…while advocating destruction of his own country’s…specifically his own city’s history” said Cmdr. R. Barnett of the group. Mayor Anderson has denied voting to remove the County Namesake memorial but Official City Minutes contradict his claim.

The parade route took the Band members past London historic monuments including Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square and the Cenotaph for the War dead of Britain. HK Edgerton, past president of the NAACP in his home town, and who has travelled to Fort Myers often in defense of the Memorial said about Anderson's gaffe “I do hope the good people who paid for the Mayor’s trip where he learned to appreciate history hold him accountable for respecting his own town’s history when he returns”. “And to the babies in the band, black and white, I hope they did learn respect for history and come back home and ask ‘where is theirs’ and call for the cenotaph of a real friend of the black race to be put back where the city fathers placed it more than a half century ago” Edgerton added. “And for Mayor Anderson, did he ask how many Africans the English pulled of the Continent of Africa compared to the Confederacy which he seems to despise?” Edgerton concluded. “If Mayor Anderson really sees the value of students learning from history, he should put his own city’s history back” McCallister concluded.
