This handsome shirt, a replica of the standard of the "St. Augustine Blues", commemorates the
diversity of the Confederate Army as exemplified on the Arlington National Cemetery "Reconciliation" Memorial and in the ranks of the members of the "Blues".
The ancestry of the Blues included Minorcans, Italians and Greeks and 3 free men of color,
including Anthony Welters.
"The Blues" were recruited from St. Augustine, Florida and became Company B, Third Florida Infantry, C.S.A.. The flag was designed by ladies of St. Augustine who presented it in 1861.
The design includes seven stars which are labeled with the state name and date of secession of the first 7 states that seceded (South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas.
