The Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial Carving in Georgia was created over a 58-year period, with work officially starting in 1915 and ending in 1972.
Actual carving took place in two main phases:
1923–1928, led by Gutzon Borglum (later Mount Rushmore sculptor) and Augustus Lukeman, and 1964–1972, completed by Walker Kirkland Hancock.
The carving features three Confederate leaders: Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee,
and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
It is the largest bas-relief sculpture in the world, measuring 90 by 190 feet and covering three acres.
The monument is currently under threat of removal! Let's raise awareness!
