HK EDGERTON LEADS PROTEST FOR LEE MONUMENT
IN FT. MYERS THIS MORNING

Ft. Myers – Wearing the uniform of General Robert E. Lee's army and carrying his Confederate flag, HK Edgerton lead a protest march in downtown Ft. Myers this morning in response to a recent City of Ft. Myers Council vote that the Lee bust, removed earlier in the year, could not be restored.
"It is an outrage that the City of Ft. Myers would vote to exterminate the namesake of its own county and I can't let this stand" Mr. Edgerton said.
"I am very disappointed in them (the city council)" he added. "They should have more courage than to be dictated to by a recycled felon turned domestic terrorist," Edgerton said, describing the leader of the anti-memorial instigator James Wallace Matthis, Sr., aka James Muwakkil. "He has peddled lies about General Lee and this record must be set straight" he said. Edgerton read a letter written by US President Eisenhower to a fellow Republican about why he had a picture of Gen. Lee on his desk.
When asked what he wanted to happen Edgerton replied "I want the bust put up right now...today".
Not put off by the 90+ degree weather Edgerton and a group of protesters including members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, then marched to City Hall chanting "veterans deserve respect" and "keep Lee in Lee".
The march concluded with Edgerton demanding that instead of bothering the monument, the City should use their power to teach the truth about General Lee.
HK Edgerton is past president of the NAACP in Asheville, NC and has been in Ft. Myers on several occasions to speak to the Council and the community about the virtues of the County's namesake.
The NAACP declared war on all southern symbols in 1991 and Mr. Edgerton has been fighting back since that time. The Lee monument, erected by descendants of Florida veterans to honor Gen. Lee, has been a target of radical left-wing groups including the NAACP for the last few years, and received notoriety after it was vandalized last year.
SAVE SOUTHERN HERITAGE Inc. is a not for profit corporation that educates & advocates on behalf of Southern Heritage & History.
