Veterans Day Observed

SOUTHERN HERITAGE GROUP HONORS VETERANS ON VETERANS DAY

November 11, 2020

Save Southern Heritage Florida reports that Veterans Day observances were held around the state at memorials and cenotaphs honoring Florida's Southern war veterans.

"Despite Hurricane Eta and continuing COVID concerns, we are pleased to report that people from around the State came out to observe Veterans Day and honor Confederate Veterans in Florida," said Save Southern Heritage - FL ("SSH FL") spokesman David McCallister.

Floral tributes were placed around the state including in St. Augustine, Tallahassee, Lakeland, Madison, Miami and more.

A participant of note was HK Edgerton. past NAACP President from Asheville, NC, who participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Veterans Park in Lakeland, the new site of the Munn Park Cenotaph.

Multiple Acts of Congress afforded Confederate Veterans the same benefits as all other US Veterans, including a funding appropriation in 1900 that provided for the re-interment with US Government headstones of Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

"Our heartfelt thanks go out to all those who came out on a rainy day to show respect for our heroes" McCallister concluded.
