CONFEDERATE FLAG DAY OBSERVED AROUND FLORIDA

Tampa - Around the state today, Floridians took part in the annual observance of Confederate Flag Day. In Jacksonville, the Edmund Kirby Smith Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans deployed their telescoping mobile flag pole along I-295. Two ceremonies were held in Tampa today the first at Hillsborough County Confederate Memorial Park, at the junction of I-75 and I-4. The second Tampa ceremony was held on the former site of the Hillsborough County Confederate Veteran's War Memorial and included raising the third National Confederate flag. During the Tampa ceremonies, David McCallister, a Camp Commander in the Sons of Confederate Veterans explained what the flag means to him. "It means Liberty. It means resistance to tyranny. It means in inheritance of God given rights including the right to speak my mind, the right to defend myself and my family and the right to worship my God and the right to be left alone" he said. "My Camp picked this site for our observance to show the public that we remember and will continue to remember the disrespect that the Board of County Commission showed to our families and these veterans of our community, many who lost their lives." McCallister said. "It is deplorable what they did" he said. The events were greeted by honks and thumbs up and passers by stopping to encourage the participants in their observances. "Despite the labels of hate that the radical left have tried to put on the Southern Cross, is internationally recognized as a symbol of sacrifice, honor, family, resistance to tyrrany and regional pride" McCallister said. "We condemn those who use the flag in a malicious way, and ask all to honor it with the reverence it deserves.. as an American emblem" he added. Confederate Flag day is observed nationwide on March 4th and it commemorates the day the Congress of the Confederate States of America adopted both the first and third National flags of in 1861, and 1865 respectively.

SAVE SOUTHERN HERITAGE Inc. is not for profit corporation that educates & advocates on behalf of Southern Heritage & History. It was started in 2015 in response to the knee-jerk Anti-Southern institutionalized bullying and “erase-ism” levied against the people of South Carolina by Governor Nikki Haley, after she broke all previous agreements about how South Carolina’s historical veterans and their symbols should be treated and respected. SSH FL does not condone racism and as such we do not support any group or person that does. We respect the rights and privileges of all as bestowed on them by their creator and expect those in our association to respect and treat others as they themselves would wish to be treated. The Florida branch was activated in mid-January 2016, in response to three initiatives in the Florida Legislature that are part of a hate campaign led by Anti-American extremists, who refuse to respect the various cultures that make up the fabric of Florida’s society. Since that time, it has grown in membership and has been active in Heritage battles throughout Florida and actively involved in voter education resulting in wins for pro-heritage candidates.
